It (2017)

Finally, I had the opportunity to watch IT movie after two attempts were spoilt. I enjoy watching the new version of IT. But I still love the older IT miniseries even though at that time the technology is not so advanced like nowadays.

For me the older IT much creepier when Georgie met the clown especially the facial expression and the dialogue. The new IT much bloodier compared to the older one.

Pennywise: Hi, Georgie! Aren’tcha gonna say… hello? [Georgie shakes his head] Awww, come on bucko! Don’t you want a… balloon?

Georgie: I’m not supposed to take stuff from strangers; My dad said so.

Pennywise: Very wise of ya dad, Georgie – very wise indeed. I, Georgie, am Pennywise the Dancin Clown – and you are Georgie! So now we know each other! Keeerect?

Georgie: I guess so… I gotta go.

Pennywise: Go? Without this? [shows Georgie his fallen paper boat]

Georgie: It’s my boat!

Pennywise: EEX-actly! Go on, kiddo… Take it. [Georgie stares, unsure about reaching into the stormdrain for his boat] Awww… You want it, don’t you, Georgie? Of course you do… and there’s cotton candy, rides, and all sorts of surprises down here… and balloons too! All colors.

Georgie: Do they float? [reaches in for his boat]

Pennywise[face begins changing from a smile to a frown] Ohh yes… they float Georgie… they float… and when you’re down here, with me… YOU’LL FLOAT TOO!

[Pennywise grabs Georgie’s arm and pulls him toward the stormdrain]

Thanks to IT miniseries until now I don’t really like clowns because they look so creepy with that thick and heavy makeup plus the red nose and big mouth. I guessed IT clown gives an impact on my dislike of clowns.

Ghost in the Shell (2017)

geisha robot ghost in the shell

I’m back to work from short breaks. Yesterday, I spent my time off watching Ghost in the Shell and bought the whole series of Miss Peregrine books by Ransom Riggs. I enjoyed watching Ghost in the Shell even though the controversial of “whitewashing” of the main character played by Scarlett Johansson. The storyline of the movie is fast-paced, and the effects are good especially the Geisha robot. The Geisha robot beautifully designs and love the scene where it kills the Hanka scientist in the restaurant.

Big Bad Wolf Penang 2016

Yesterday, I drove to Penang with my brother with this excitement because of Big Bad Wolf in Penang Times Square. I always wanted to go to Big Bad Wolf and finally this year I managed to go to Big Bad Wolf Penang 2016.

Unfortunately, I only bought four books only because I don’t really find the academic books that I wanted for my research. I managed to find one book about Pantone: Guide to Communicating with Color and the rest are fictional novels.

Personally, I don’t really find these “Wow” factor while browsing the books. Maybe because I have this high expectation about finding lots of academic books with great prices. My theory is that those books are “left over” from the big city like KL and they bring it to the Northern.

Carol Soundtrack

Carol Soundtrack

Yesterday I ordered Carol soundtrack CD from Amazon.com. I’m so addicted to Carol after watching the movie. The score is so beautifully done by Carter Burwell. I can’t wait for the CD to arrive somewhere in January.

The Danish Girl

I’m also looking forward to watching The Danish Girl. I haven’t read the book yet but I think I will just watch the movie first. Usually I will watch the movie first because I was once to be a lazy bum when it becomes to read the thick book.

I’m looking forward the year 2016. I think my New Year resolution would be trying to lose some more weight and hope to further my study or get a new job. I’m quite happy because I manage to maintain my weight but I need to lose some more. Haha… lame resolution but, I do need to find time and energy to exercise like 3 to 4 in a week. Now I usually exercise every weekend only because when I get back from work almost 7 pm so I don’t have the energy to exercise just relaxing with my cats (my babies).

Merry Christmas Wishes to All Readers and Followers

I have quite a long holiday so I took an opportunity to buy another two books for myself from thriftbooks.com. This is the first time I buy used books from the thriftbooks.com. I hope the service is good because usually I will read other reviews before commit to buy anything from the website that I am not familiar with.

One of the reasons I buy books from the thriftbooks.com is because the shipping costs. I’m so happy with the standard international shipping costs and they also offer expedited shipping.

I bought Kim Wilkins books called The Infernal and Fallen Angel. I love Kim Wilkins works and I never read any of her work as Kimberley Freeman. I like the element of horror and supernatural in her writing style. I can’t wait to read The Infernal because it was her first novel and it won the Aurealis Award.

Carol by Patricia Highsmith

Carol

This is the first time that I ever read from Patricia Highsmith. I loved the book and I cannot wait to watch Carol after reading the book written beautifully by Patricia Highsmith.

I did pre-ordered the book from the bookdepository and happy with my purchased because I cannot wait for the book to be sold in Malaysia.

At first the book quite slow, I think it is because the storyline was in 50s and I need to imagine and get use with Patricia Highsmith written styled. I’m able to finish the book less than a week.  I love the cover design but the cover too soft and I need to be delicate to read it.

I wish I could watch the movie in the cinema because I was amazed with Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara performance in portraying the Carol and Therese. The cinematography of the film is also beautifully done.

Malaysian Economy…

It’s been a while since I update this blog. I spend a lot of my time reading academic journals and books but I always find time to read novels. Sadly to say that now with Malaysia’s currency keeps plunging and everything keeps getting expensive. Thanks to GST and politic turmoil in Malaysia.

Even though I’m working and single but I feel the pressure of the Malaysian economy getting worse everyday. My job requires me to read a lot. So imagine that I need to buy books and the prices getting expensive in the US dollar but when I convert it to Ringgit immediately I feel that book so freaking expensive because Ringgit getting worse. (P/S: I’m not talking about the books only.)

Now when I see books that I wanted to buy I just go ahead and order them because I can’t wait the Malaysian currency to get better any time soon. I need books for my work and my guilty pleasure. I’m feeling like a squirrel because I keep buying books that I can afford and stacks them in the closet. When I need to read I just grab from the shelves.

I’m worry about Malaysia because I think Malaysia getting worse and hoping that Malaysia will be OK soon…
